I've been having a lot of memory lapses over the past few weeks: left my lights on twice, misplaced my car once, forgot to pay for an eBay auction, and misread the instructions on another eBay auction. I hope that I'm just distracted. A bit unnerving. On the other hand, things are breaking right and left. My cell phone died, and I scrambled to get another one because I don't want to wander around a strange city without one. When I tried to activate the cell phone, it wouldn't activate, so I had to bring the phone into a service center to activate. (The new cell phone is cute. I've been having fun picking out custom ringers to download: "All You Need Is Love" for family, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" for friends, "Yesterday" for my calendar, etc.) I've been installing programs at work that I've installed before, but suddenly they're spewing errors that I have to find out how to fix. The kicker is that I bought a refurbished digital camera to take with me on my trip--and it doesn't work. True, it's not new, but I've never run into a problem with refurbished electronics before. I suspect I'll have to send it to L.A. to be fixed.

Maybe the memory lapses are just variations on a theme.

So I called my mom for a little tea-and-sympathy about the cell phone and camera--and she told me that her entire department was laid off. Because she's retiring at the end of the month, they're letting her work until the end of the month (to avoid paying severance?). She'll be the person who turns out the lights. I wish that she could have a more positive transition to retirement. On the other hand, this is a reminder of what she won't miss.

On a more upbeat note, a friend of mine in Chicago just graduated with dual Master's degrees in Nursing and Public Health. I told him that I'm going to Raleigh-Durham in a couple of weeks to check it out. He asked me to tell him what I think of the place because people are recommending that he get a job at UNC (University of North Carolina, near where I'm staying). It would be too funny if we both wound up there. Needless to say, he's encouraging me to move there.

Lately, I've had the memory lapse thing more than usual......

Its not unusual for me to go to the shops for bread, and come home with everything except bread.....but, lately, remembering the book titles...songs....people's names.....its just not been happening. Hopefully, its because I need a holiday!

Or maybe it's an age thing, though I like your holiday theory better. Hmm, maybe both you and I should measure our levels of forgetfulness before, during, and after our respective vacations.

I've been forgetting to turn my car lights off, too. So far my battery has just shrugged it off. It must be a viral epidemic.

LOL. I hadn't heard about a headlight virus. I wonder what the treatment is.

Unfortunately, my battery died both times, and I had to call AAA. The embarrassing part is that I was in the exact same spot both times. I'm glad that the AAA guys were different.
