Gardening is the road to bankruptcy :) Ordered more coral bells and some herbs and tomatoes (although the groundhog likes to eat some of my herbs, so it's a losing battle).

Cool, my Capital One credit card payment has posted.

Ack! The forecasters are predicting rain from 5 AM onwards!

Lily loves cherry turnovers. That’s something that she has in common with Zara, although grumpy old Zara wants nothing to do with Lily.

It is COLD out. The forecast said that the wind chill will be down into the 30s F at 11 PM.

Oliver projectile vomited in the living room. I’ll have to keep an eye on him. Bella licked it up, which was gross but useful.

Got up at 7 AM. I was thinking that it’s Monday, but there is another day of weekend!

It’s raining lightly.

Got what I think are the batteries for the mower.

Lily keeps dropping napkins on the floor. Then Bella grabs them. Sigh.

Fed us all. My plan of action is to nap, eat lunch, shower, and head out to pick up my plants. Hmm, I don’t see the pots for the African daisies. I’ll need to order some.

Ordered more recycled paper products from Who Gives a Crap?

Napped. While I was out with Bella, a guy came by with a pile of Amazon boxes. I got the fake book in which to stash cash, and it really does look like a book. Now I need to get the cash. I got some investing books, collars with a pocket for AirTags for Oliver and Lily, cat food, and some underwear and socks. Oliver has taken over one of the boxes. Oh, and there’s a tall box that I forgot about. I have no idea what it is. It’s the weeder.

Bella has a squeaky ball, and she’s kind of driving me crazy with it, but at least, she’s happy. Oliver got part of my pizza and Lily got part of my donut. I have cats who need to learn manners.

I’m fighting the impulse to go back to sleep. Then I’d lose the plants that I bought. I should get myself together and go.

Just remembered to order vitamin B12. My levels are borderline low.

I’m getting a headache:( Took some acetaminophen and I could lie down for a half-hour.

Went and got the plants. They got my order wrong and left two plants out of it. They found another astilbe of the same color and one of a slightly different color and gave them to me. (That’s fine; my garden won’t be perfect.) They thanked me for shopping the sale. It occurred to me that they probably were volunteers at Allerton, and that sounds like fun to do.

My eye is twitching. Napped but woke up after a half-hour. My eye is still twitching. Fed us all. I’m feeling too tired to clean.

I’m looking for stuff to buy. I need to stop that.

Maybe I’ll read What Color Is Your Parachute in Retirement? for a while.

Bella is having fun playing with the paper from one of the Amazon boxes.

Most of the team will be at the conference tomorrow, so it should be a quiet day. I need to figure out when to take the Honda to the dealer for them to look at. I also need to get my student loans straightened out.

Investing

Lily promptly sat on my book. Sigh. Lily sez, “I don’t understand what you mean by ‘reading’. Books are for lying on.”

My Fidelity choices available kind of suck. They went for the cheapest index funds. I bumped up my international funds because they are doing better than the US funds.

Woke up at 6:30 AM. Bella was watching Squirrel TV. Fed us all. Now it’s nap time (done). I’m trying to explain to Bella that if Oliver is yowling, it means that he is not happy. Bella doesn’t speak cat. Ow. Bella just scratched my face. She’s getting hyper.

Ate lunch. I think that I’m going to nap for an hour and then shower. Had a nice nap.

I need to find my chargers for my business trip.

My dad is going to teach me his system that he uses for investments. He’s done quite well for himself, so it should be useful.

Oliver is occupying my lap and Bella doesn’t like it. Got my lazy butt into the shower.

One of my irises has a bud. How exciting! I have a headache but need to get going. Back from the library. I was able to check out The Economist as well as The Economist’s Guide to Financial Markets. I could save a ton of money in retirement by using the library more fully.

Ow, my fingers hurt. Ow. Only one of the mower batteries seems to be working, but I got most of the front yard done.

Fed us all. I'm feeling really tired, so I'm thinking of going to sleep early.

Tired Day

Apr. 26th, 2025 10:01 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)

I can get What It’s Like to Live Now on eBay. It’s in a box somewhere, but I really would like to reread it.

Everyone wants my string cheese.

So much for going to bed early. I’ve been reading Meredith Maran’s book about needing to reinvent her life at age 60, and it’s good and what I needed to read.

Woke up at 5:30 AM. Bella had the zoomies after she did her business. She’s full of havoc: barking at Lily and bugging Oliver.

Crap. My Greenworks chargers are not turning on. It’ll cost a fortune to replace the batteries. Lily ran down into the basement. I don’t know what the attraction of the basement is, but she loves it.

I’m going back to bed. Slept until 10.

Oh fuck. They’re having a race today, so I can’t get to the library. I’ll go late in the day.

I’m figuring out how the day should go. I want to wash the clothes that I have on to get a pair of grungy jeans for yard work. I’ll go work on my investment course while it’s washing. Then I’ll shower and go outside. I’ll try to mow, but I’m expecting that the batteries won’t work. Then I’ll weed and clean out garden beds. I’ll change clothes and go to the library and grocery store at 5 PM. Note to self: buy napkins! When I get back, I’ll clean house.

Goofball Oliver was in the microwave (turned off, of course). Lily decided to come up from the basement.

I finished the Meredith Maran book. I’m letting it sink in. She completely rebuilt her life in LA! It’s giving me food for thought.

Now I’m thinking of a nap while the clothes are in the wash. Bella has half a tennis ball. (She chewed the other half.) Couldn’t sleep. I’ll go work on my investment class. Bought a new charger for my Apple Watch. I can’t find my case of chargers and the original one is bent.

Got my clothes in the dryer after Oliver got out. Cats!

Have a headache and sore neck.

Checked in for my doctor's appointment on Monday, but I'm not sure where I go. Need to call them on Monday. Worked on my investment class, but I need to spend some time playing with the financials for different sectors in the paper-trading tool. Later today, I think.

Now I'm thinking of skipping the yard work today and just running errands. I have tomorrow to work outside. The race will be over soon.

Found my Econ books and stashed them away out of Bella’s reach. Speaking of which, someone whose name is Bella is pulling toilet paper out of the bathroom and chewing it. Dogs!

I found some books on Audible that I want to get, but I need to wait for the check.

Managed to drag my weary butt into the shower. I’m thinking that I need to eat something because I also need to run to Lowe’s and get keys cut. I’m feeling draggy though and don’t feel like going out. Hmm. The last day that I can pick up the library book is tomorrow. Lowe’s opens at 8 AM tomorrow. The library opens at 1PM tomorrow. I can pick up napkins and 7up Tropical Zero Sugar at Meijer. Yeah, I think that I’ll stay in. Ye gods, I am tired. Actually, I’m low on cat litter (though I have some in the car), so I think that I’ll submit a Meijer’s order (done).

Got us all fed. I want to take a nap but want to be up for the Meijer order, so I’ll email my dad back and look at financial sector charts. Actually, there’s nothing in my order that will spoil so I’ll nap. Meijer canceled my delivery order. Why? Oh, apparently I didn’t have enough money.

Slept until 7:30 PM. Kept Bella from bugging Oliver. (She was not pleased.) Worked on my investment course. I think that I'll feed the beasts and go to bed. I might need to throw some laundry in--I'll check.

Actually, I'll read some of my macroeconomics book before going to sleep.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Overslept until 8 AM. Oh well.

My Italian teacher was nice about skipping next week. (We have an in-person meeting, and I'll be driving to it during the Italian time.)

The travel Meetup people also have a Yosemite trip that I might do sometime. I never went there when I lived in California!

Oliver is playing with his beloved little plastic ball. He carries it around in his mouth!

Got my groceries.

I saved a link to a hydration pack for larger people. That might be good for wandering around Italy. (I haven't forgotten almost passing out in Florence.) And the Sardinia trip will be in August.

The car repair people called. They want me to bring the car by so that the painter can match the color of the car. I said tomorrow morning. No, I'm going to take my shower during lunch and come by in the late afternoon. Crud, on the way back, I discovered that the stereo isn't getting any power. I called the repair shop, and they'll look at it when they put the new lock on. Hell, is this ever going to get over with?

The next "official" protest being held by the group that I joined is on May 1st. Crud, that's a work day.

I'm having a tough time finding someone to let Bella out at lunchtime during my meetings next week. I'm looking into doggie day care as an alternative. Called a place and they're sending over a release form.

I'm thinking of shelling out for a Roam hardside suitcase. They're pricey, but are supposedly well made. My Hartmann case has gotten stained, which is the disadvantage of softside luggage.

Bella, Oliver, and Lily attended my shower. Lily walked around on the shower stall and then jumped in. I thought that she might want to leave, so I opened the door and Oliver walked in. Then Bella walked in. I got Bella to leave but had to remove Lily, protesting. Oliver decided to leave on his own steam. Partway through my shower, both Oliver and Lily were standing on the shower stall batting at each other. Those two are a laugh riot!

Flaming headache.

Apparently my cleaner was texting me to confirm for tomorrow and I missed the messages. I hope that we're still on. We are.

Received the ferns for my garden. They are bare roots plants, which Bella likes to dig up and play with. I'll need to plant them this weekend, rain or not, and dig deeper to hide them.

Hmm. I haven't gotten the itineraries from the Meetup travel people yet. I'm pondering going over to Paris an extra couple of days early to wander around and follow ChatGPT's tours.

I went on the BBC’s app, and they were streaming the debate in Canada, so I left it on while I was cleaning up the kitchen. It was interesting. They brought up some of the same issues being discussed in the US. They are taking Trump's wish to annex Canada seriously. The discussion about healthcare was interesting. They were saying that their system was getting more privatized, and I was wondering why. There also was a discussion about Canada's role in supporting the Ukraine now that the US is no longer doing so. The polite Canadians were talking over each other! Anyway, I learned something and also got stuff done on the house.

I got a bad case of the shakes and did something to my knee. I'm going to go to sleep and get up very early to finish tidying. I'll set a wakeup call to make sure that I'll get up.

days_unfolding: (Default)

No one is as happy as a dog with a stick. Bella rolls around on her back with the stick in her mouth. I told her that she’s a goofball with no sense of dignity whatsoever :)

Overslept and got up a little before 8 AM. There’s a freeze warning tonight. I wonder what I did with the drop cloth.

I have a meeting for which I need to be on camera, so I ran downstairs to throw on some clothes and slap on some makeup. Good thing that our meetings are virtual so no one can smell me. It was interesting putting on makeup with a cat (Oliver) on my shoulder.

Things are stacking up at work. I asked a colleague for some tips on handling multiple projects, and he had some good suggestions. I’ve got different to-do lists set up for each project.

The car being fixed (Kia) is ready. I told them that I couldn't come this afternoon (because I hadn't taken a shower), but I would come on Monday morning. I need to order The Club ASAP (done--it'll arrive on Sunday). And the security cameras as soon as I can.

i don't know why the toe that I previously broke and healed is hurting me.

I'm looking for lightweight travel pants for my trip. Someday I'll get my travel clothes totally together. My mom had a set of clothes that she just used for travel. Maybe some gauze pants and a shirt? I'm thinking of going in mid-to-late August, so it's going to be hot. I found a nice, light dress too. I like the blue and white stripes, but they have wrinkle-resistant navy and black styles that might be better for traveling. Actually, I really like this dress in denim blue.

Bella is being a little dickens tonight. First, she dug up one of the plants from my garden. Then she knocked down the box of the cats’ canned food and tried to steal the cans.

Got us all fed with a break for getting cat food cans away from Bella. (She’s no longer running around with one in her mouth, so I guess that I got them all.)

I went around the yard with my plant identifier, and there are a ton of resurrection lilies. I need to move some of them by the street because they’re where the garage is going. I might give some away too. I also need to move the daffodils and want to move the day lilies.

I have a headache, so I’m going to lie down for an hour and then shower to run errands.

Woke up a little before 1 AM. So much for my errands. I’ll go in the morning. Crud, I need to cover the plants.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Woke up at 8 AM. Fed us all.

[personal profile] dame_grise was talking about providing temporary shelter to trans people from less supportive states. I’d have a lot of cleanup to do before I could do that, but I’m thinking about it. And it would have to be someone who likes pets.

Overslept my nap by a half-hour.

Bella is being kind of a jerk today. Oliver wanted on my lap and she started play-biting him. He bailed out.

Silence from the trust. God, I’m sick of those people.

Economists say that Trump’s tariffs will cause a recession. Just what we need :(

Schwab hasn’t called me back thus far.

I really want to go on another cruise. They are so relaxing. Not until December. Though Norwegian Cruise Lines has a cruise to Bermuda in August. That would be cheap.

I’m still feeling kind of draggy, but better than yesterday. I’m telling myself that accomplishing anything is better than nothing. My therapist wrote back and she thought that I was feeling grief. But the depression got worse after I wrote her.

I’ve been raking and my back hurts. Damn big chest. Bella is not being a help. She dug up another of my plants.

I’ve got a flaming headache that won’t go away, so I’m going to lie down. That’s the end of my raking. Crud, Oliver went under the bed. Got him. Couldn’t sleep, but my headache went away. Felt like crying though. Watched a couple of episodes of The Big Bang Theory. Fed us all. My headache is coming back.

Got the garbage out. Did dishes. Cut up some hot dogs and string cheese (with Oliver's help--NOT!) for Bella for dog training tomorrow night.

Depression

Mar. 31st, 2025 09:56 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)

Overslept. I’m feeling kind of sad. Actually, I’m feeling massively depressed. I don’t know why. Mimi? (And yes, I took my meds and some vitamin D.) I emailed my therapist. I looked for an earlier appointment, but the earliest that I could get one was two days before the one that was already scheduled. I'm debating contacting my psychiatrist.

Emailed the trust asking for a contact for my tax forms and what about my money? Radio silence thus far. Maybe I could do the administrative work on my taxes, but that won't take long. And gather my other forms.

Emailed in sick and napped. I had to eject Oliver and his ball. Bella saw some small dogs outside and clearly wanted to play with them. Progress. Forced myself into the shower. Logged into work. My next challenge will be to get myself to go to choir. All I want to do is sleep.

Oliver brought his ball upstairs! Apparently, he loves it.

I emailed out of choir. The struggle will be to feed the pets before I collapse, but I should do it. I need to snap out of this tomorrow because I'm taking a day off to rake. (I think that I will cancel Italian though.)

I contacted Schwab because I’m fed up with the trust.

Headache.

Fed us all. Tried to nap but couldn't sleep, which is a good sign. I received my tax form, so now I can do my taxes. Did most of my taxes. But aaaaaaah, I have a tax issue with the trust. Last year, I was told that my distributions were taxable. This year, I was told that there was "No reportable income" on my Schedule K-1. One of them must be wrong. So no, I can't finish my taxes now.

I'm going to pay some bills and go to bed.

days_unfolding: (Default)

I had problems falling asleep, so I watched two episodes of The Big Bang Theory. The early episodes were not as good as later episodes, but I suppose that’s to be expected. The objectifying of Penny is not funny. I got up again and ate oatmeal. I finally fell asleep.

Got up at 8:30 AM. So far, it’s not raining. Got us all fed.

I looked at dog toothbrushes and toothpaste. I’ll try it with Bella. I think that Oliver and Lily would take a chomp out of me if I tried to brush their teeth. Well, maybe I’ll try cat toothbrushes and toothpaste with them and see what happens.

Napped. It’s storming. I need to find out what store has poster board and paint stirrer sticks to make my protest signs. I also need to get hot dogs and string cheese as rewards for Bella.

Tornado warning; take shelter now. Bella doesn’t think that she can get down the basement stairs. Sigh. I’m here with Lily. Here’s Oliver. Placed the order for the poster board, etc. from the basement. I wish that I had grabbed my food when I went in the basement. Oh well. What did we do in tornado shelters before we had cell phones? Okay, the warning is over. Apparently, there was some light damage in Savoy, SW of here.

Had lunch. Napped again. Got us all fed. I’m trying to convince myself to take a shower. Looked up cruises to South America. I remember one that took in both Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, but I haven't found it yet. Okay, it was on Oceania. Oliver and Lily were wrestling upstairs.

I’ve got my cleaning person coming right before I have someone come in to let Bella out during the all-hands meeting.

Headache. Lay down. Wound up oversleeping. I want to get up early to get stuff done.

I got a paw print from Mimi in the mail. I'm not sure if her ashes are behind the paw print? Probably yes.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Oliver is snoozing upstairs. I ate a turnover and got Bella’s and Lily’s rapt attention. Lily has a favorite spot in the front window where she can see Bella and I come in.

I know. The pet-sitter-to-be can get water from the quarantine tank for the main aquarium. That would work.

Got up a little after 6 AM. Took Bella out and put the cat dishes on to soak. I’m going back to sleep and will take a shower at lunchtime. Overslept but made it to work.

Oliver and Lily seem to be playing Hide and Go Seek. Now they're wrestling. And galloping around upstairs. I found my work laptop knocked over when I came upstairs. Apparently, they play during the night. I hear them upstairs.

The trust people said that I would have my tax form ready when I got back. Now she says that she doesn't handle taxes, but she can see if the form is ready. They are annoying me.

Headache.

Fed the beasts. Oliver was being a jerk and kept eating Lily's food, even though he had food. The cats have settled down. Lily is looking out Mimi's window. Now she's crashed out cold by the front window.

Showered during lunch, attended by Bella and Oliver. Bella chewed a hole in my sock. Oliver was meowing.

I need to order canned dog food from Costco.

Bella had an appointment for booster shots, and she was a very good girl. She has figured out that when I ask her to go into the car, we're going from place to place, but I'm not giving her away, so she'll jump right in. She peed a little at the vet but otherwise was very good. I told her that after she gets dog training, I'll take her in the car to the dog park. They have a special place for more timid dogs. Also, she seems to like collars better than harnesses. Good to know.

I am not looking forward to explaining what happened with my cruise at choir. Well, some people didn’t know what to say, so I added, “But my other cats and dog were glad to see me “. Rehearsal itself went well. Bella was thrilled that I came home :)

I need to feed the beasties, take Bella out one more time, and crash hard because I have Italian tomorrow morning. I’m not looking forward to explaining what happened to my teacher too :(

days_unfolding: (Default)

Bella pulled out my toilet paper. Sigh. She’s manic. Cats: We want food, etc. They are up on the table to get away from Bella.

Hmm. It’s going to rain on Sunday, so I need to get out and rake leaves on Saturday. Leaf pickup April 7 - 11. Some of my neighbors have bags neatly arranged already. Overachievers :)

Got my groceries.

Hmm, the pet waste people didn’t come. I guess that they didn't see my new credit card. Oh, they did, just later than before.

One of my colleagues said to use Scott's Turf Builder to fill in the patches on the lawn. I'll look into it. Maybe I should seed the lawn tomorrow too? But raking leaves should be enough work. I could go get the seed in the evening.

I got busy at work but got things done. Now I'm checking alt text on our Web site pages, which is tedious as hell but needs to be done so we can comply with new guidelines for accessibility. And I'm finding some pages that need to be updated.

I have a headache. I'm waiting for work to be over so that I can feed the beasts and lie down for a while. We all are fed now.

I’m looking for a dog groomer to trim Bella’s nails. They’re talons.

Completely hammered after a Harry Potter dream. Fed the cats. I need to go back to bed.

Tired Day

Mar. 20th, 2025 11:32 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)

Got most of the recycling out. Went and got Mimi’s carrier from the U of I vet; I saved around $70 doing that. And now I have three carriers for three cats.

Got up at 7 AM. It’s cold, wet, and miserable out. Even the dog was less than thrilled.

I need to get someone to clean the gutters.

Bella ate Lily's food. Twice. Aargh. Bella is running around with her squeaky ball. She loves that thing. The pup is tired though. Oliver and Lily got kitty racetrack out of their system, I hope. Oliver is in Mimi's window looking at the birds. Lily is sitting on the rocking chair in the front window. I deem that "Lily's chair". Now Oliver is tunneling under the blanket on the guest room bed. Lily digs her claws in my leg when she goes on my lap. Ouch. Points to Oliver; he doesn't do that. Now Lily is checking out the mattress in the guest room. LOL. Oliver is tunneling under the blanket in the guest room, and Lily is jumping on top of him. Those two keep me entertained. A guy came by with two dogs when I was in the yard with Bella, and she hid behind me. That makes me wonder how she's going to do in the dog training class. The Dynamic Duo managed to 1) knock my soda onto me and 2) unplug my work laptop. Now Lily is on top of the fish tank.

I told work to load me up with meetings, but it hasn't been too bad.

I'm freaking tired.

I need to close my purse right now. I need to have the house cleaned, but I can do it myself. I'm getting pretty good at picking up the kitchen before I go to bed. Though hmm. The U of I music venue is having the Mozart Requiem on the 29th. I love the Mozart Requiem. Okay, I bought a ticket.

I asked my dad how to keep my energy up, and he said, “Lose weight”. All right then.

I'm looking at flights to San Diego for the Mexico cruise. I might have to go on Christmas Eve because I think that the bus isn't scheduled on Christmas. Or I might have to take the train, but I think that my suitcase might be too big for it? Oh, I can check luggage to Chicago. It would take me about an hour to get to O'Hare from the train station. I need to figure out something to do in San Diego before the cruise. The zoo? They have a great zoo. San Diego city tour? I'll need to find a hotel too. Found a hotel that I like.

My shade garden has shipped. I’ll need to get after the garden that I will put it in this weekend.

Bella: Pet me! Pet me! Pet me! She found a piece of styrofoam somewhere and was shredding it. I guess that I need to get out the broom. Had some Girl Scout cookies. Bella: Aren’t you going to give me some? Me: Nope!

Headache. I’m going to lie down for a little while. But the doggo wanted a belly rub. I’m sharing my bed with a can of tuna that Bella brought in. I only live here :)

Slept until 10:30 PM. I must have needed it.

Oliver knocked over Mimi’s dry food again. Sigh. He and Bella are eating it in a moment of feline-canine cooperation. Oy. I think that I'm going to leave the kitchen a mess, put clothes in the dryer, and go back to bed. Oops, I need to order soda.

days_unfolding: (Default)

I’m in the stateroom with a cup of tea, waiting for the vet to open. I thought that they opened at 7AM, but it’s at 7:30. The tea is good. Love Earl Grey.

The pet sitter found Lily! I called the vet about Mimi and left a message. Now the pet sitter is saying “Don’t come back.” She’ll get Mimi to the vet. Talked to the vet and they said to bring her in.

Ye gods, I am tired.

Excellent French Toast for breakfast. I bought the Holland America jacket (it isn’t a hoodie) and it looks very nice (as well it should for what I paid for it). I also bought a plastic glass and metal water bottle.

I napped for a half-hour. Then I went to a burger and hot dog “stand” near one of the pools. The food was good, but I didn’t realize that it didn’t have a bun! I might try their hot dogs another day.

I’m trying to figure out what to do now. There is a library area mid-ship, and it might be a nice place to sit and read. Though I don’t know how thrilled the people there would be with my getting a phone call. Maybe I’ll read in my stateroom.

The sea is kind of choppy today, but I must be getting used to it. Walking in the cafeteria was kind of interesting.

Read a little. Dozed a little. My kind of day.

Connected with the vet after some phone issues. Mimi has a bad ear infection which *might* be causing her balance issues, so they are going to treat it. They’re also worried about a possible neurological issue, so if treating the ear infection doesn’t work, they want to transfer her to the U of I for them to take a look with their MRI machine.

Hmm. Something interesting. I’m not getting headaches on this cruise (although I bought some Tylenol just in case). Less time on a computer? Something else?

Crud. I didn’t bring my swim goggles. I have to limit my eyes’ time in the pool.

I’m debating going on the shore excursion tomorrow. I have no real interest in Cartagena. And I’m enjoying my laziness. The places that I really want to go to are later in the trip: Costa Rica, Puerto Vallarta…and of course, transiting the Panama Canal. I always wondered why people took those long trips with many days at sea. Now I get it. It’s like staying at a luxury resort.

Maybe I could go to the fitness center tomorrow. Though walking the track (where’s the track?) would be good too. There doesn’t appear to be a track.

My feet are now sandal-ready. The manicure/pedicure technician took a lot of time working on my feet, and they have never looked better. I need to have a pedicure periodically because I have trouble getting my toenails short enough. I also got a manicure because as long as I was there, I might as well. The only down side is that most of their nail polish was for gel manicures. I’ve tried to get a gel manicure off and no. That was a nightmare.

I thought that dinner was until 9 PM, but it was until 8. So I just ordered room service. They told me that my Coke Zero wasn't covered under the drinks package--Fine, fine, just give me the food. I get testy when I get hungry.

So now I wait (and post).

Tired Day

Feb. 11th, 2025 01:21 am
days_unfolding: (Default)

I'm yawning, but I need to empty the fish tank. Mimi is going to have to get off of my lap. The problem with the fish tank was that It wasn't seated on the stand properly. So I planted the plants and filled it back up. Well, no, it still is a little off, but I'm not emptying the tank again. It's hard to see that it's off until it's full.

This is what my aquarium looks like today. No fish though until after my trip in March.

aquarium_no_fish.jpg

Mimi is on my lap again.

Had problems falling asleep again. I emailed in sick for 1/2 day and will lie down. Lily is being a love bug.

Now I’m up. I’m going to email in sick for choir (done).

I walked into a zoo at work. Lots of threads of tasks going on that don't have to do with each other. Got most of it done.

I’m getting a headache. Napped and slept until midnight.

Lily was showing me her belly. Mimi wants attention!

days_unfolding: (Default)

I don’t have the heart to take away Mimi’s chair from upstairs, but I want one in the library. I found a used chair on Facebook Marketplace that I like. The question is whether I could fit it in the car.

I came into the bedroom to see Bella on the new bed!

bella_bed.jpg

I’m working on getting Bella to stop bugging Oliver so much. I got her to walk away from him three times. She got pets and a treat. It’s a start.

Bella grabbed a fortune from a fortune cookie off of the table. She makes me laugh.

Woke up at 8:30 AM. It's a pajama day today, although I have a piano lesson tonight, so I'll have to make myself presentable for it.

Oliver got out again this morning, but I grabbed him. I guess that I need to shut him in the bathroom when I go out with Bella.

I decided that I would like plants upstairs, but there isn't a lot of light. I found a folding shelf with grow lights that might work.

My doctor's appointment tomorrow is in Danville, about 30 minutes away from here. I'm taking the morning as sick time because of the extra drive time.

Ugh. Our libraries are discussing how to deal with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents. I hate that this is an issue.

Mimi didn't finish her wet food last night, but she polished off her dry food. If that's what she wants, she can have it. I have a ton of it because I accidentally got two bags of senior formula, thinking that one was adult formula for Oliver and Lily.

I keep forgetting to look for Bella’s ball outside. I looked, but so far, I haven't found it.

I'm mulling over putting a rose garden in at the side of the house. I originally wanted to put my vegetable garden there, but I think that there are gas and power lines underground there. (I'll call to check.) But I could plant roses on either side of the area there, and maybe put in a path? And a bench? Though a wildflower garden would be simpler. Or maybe put in a raised box.

I'm getting a bad sinus headache.

I've been gathering the forms that I need for taxes. Some of them won't be ready until the 31st though, so I guess that I'll write the trust about taxes on the weekend.

I think that I'll get will and trust books/software. I probably will have a professional look it over, but I can take a cut at it and think about the decisions that I'll need to make.

Hmm, I think that I found a niche for a book or garden shop: pet-friendly garden designs. I did find one book (used) on Amazon. Coneflowers are safe for pets, so I might work with them for my side garden. And Western Wheatgrass. Or maybe just wildflowers.

Had my piano lesson. I said that I liked playing songs that I knew how to sing, which led to the song "Danny Boy," which is so pretty. She dug up music for it and I'll work on it.

It got kind of late to get the recycling out, so I'll get up early to gather it. I need to feed the hordes' last meal of the night, and then I'll go to sleep. I have my doctor's appointment in the morning, so I can leave a little later.

Oh hell, there was a midair collision between a passenger jet and helicopter in Washington DC. There are divers looking for the plane in the Potomac River. This doesn't look good.

Tried to get the WaterPic working but it’s not working. I’ll mess with it tomorrow. My pajamas were ice cold, so I ran the dryer until they were nice and toasty.

Woke up at 7:30 AM. The critters are restless. Step 1: took Bella out. Step 2: put the cat dishes on to soak. Step 3: fed cats. Step 4: Fed me. Step 5: fed Bella. Step 6: filled the cats’ water dish. Then Bella decided that she wanted to go out again. I gave her her purple ball toy, and it’s a hit!

Hmm. If I got the puppy, I’d need a gate for overnight in the warm bathroom. And a puppy bed. Hmm, I wonder if they’d have a gate at Costco? Speaking of Costco, it’s kind of cold to go today.

And speaking of cold, feeling it. I’m thinking of huddling under the bedroom blanket after lunch. My heater is good, but it’s not quite keeping up.

Saw an airplane. I was wondering if it was coming from the local airport. I usually take the bus to O’Hare because it’s cheaper.

Hmm. I’m wondering if I should bring out my cashmere coat, but it doesn’t have a hood, but it’s long.

Oliver is dozing off, and peace reigned throughout the land. Oops, I knocked over my soda and swore, and it woke him up.

Napped. It was nice and cozy warm. The puppy is still asleep.

I’m trying to avoid any news of the inauguration. At least now I don’t have Mom to call me to tell me what Trump did, but that’s kind of sad.

Jealousy….Bella thinks that the cats can’t settle on my lap. This time, surprisingly, it’s Oliver. He starts off nice but then bites. Snot :)

Someone knocked over one of my plants. Oliver, I’m looking at you, but it could be Bella. Oh for god’s sake. Bella munched on the pot. Luckily, I had another one.

Took a shower. Damn, that bathroom is cold. Got the WaterPik working. Ugh, it feels too cold to do anything. I’d break out the electric blanket, but with Bella’s chewing habit, probably not a good idea.

I decided to cuddle under the blanket in the bedroom. Bella approves. It’s supposed to be cold through tomorrow and then warm up to more usual temperatures. Ooh, standing on the heat vent is nice.

Zara was very happy that I’m in the library room and is being cuddly. She misses me! I need to spend more time in here.

Had a good piano lesson. Zara showed up and my teacher took a picture of her :)

Ate dinner. Ouch, my left wrist is hurting. Did I do something wacky to it playing piano?

I have a lot of work to do picking up the stuff that Bella shredded. But I think that I’ll do it in the morning.

I was thinking that Bella was jerking my chain because I’ll take her out if she goes into the bathroom and whines. But she did need to pee. I’m reversing the morning routine. Bella is fed and so am I. I’m working on the cats.

I keep calling Lily “Bella”. She could be a Bella. She’s a very pretty little cat.

Everyone’s fed. Scooped litter boxes. Soaked Zara’s box. I’m getting a headache. Figured out how the shower works in the warm bathroom. Took meds.

Oliver was licking out one of the cat food cans. It fell in Lily’s dish. Bella swooped in and grabbed the can. I just about died laughing.

Now I’ll post and go to bed.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Bella was nosing around the bathroom where she previously pooped, so I hastily took her outside. She did need to poop, but she also did zoomies making circles around the house.

Bella ate Lily’s food while I was feeding Zara and Mimi. So I gave Lily more food and guarded it, Bella and Oliver thought that it was unfair that Lily got to eat. Life at the zoo :) I might need to feed Bella wet food because she’s jealous of the cats’ food. Hmm, they don’t seem to have Hill’s wet dog food at Walmart. PetSmart has it. Geesh expensive. Maybe I should look at cheaper food.

Bella finally settled down. I think that it’s bedtime.

Lily snuck in. Bella was in the doggy bed, but saw me petting Lily and jumped on the bed. I was dividing my pets between them. Now they’re both settled.

Woke up with the daily alarm on my iPhone at 7:30 AM. Crazy pets are manic. I got smart and shut Bella in the bedroom while I fed the cats so that she wouldn’t eat the cats’ food. Peace and quiet now that the cats are fed.

Maybe I’ll try Costco for wet dog food.

I’m glad that I have a garbage can in the kitchen with a lid to keep the dog and cats out of it.

Bella and Oliver think that it’s unfair that I get to eat.

I’m slowly learning Bella’s rhythms. She doesn’t do her business when she first gets up, but after breakfast is good.

Sigh. Went with Bella to take a nap, but Oliver is in here. Bella wants to play with Oliver, but he doesn’t understand. Oliver left. Now it’s nap time. Woke up after an hour, but I might go back to sleep. It just occurred to me that I shouldn’t go out with a cold without a mask, but I don’t know where I have one. I should check the car. I seem to be awake. Maybe I’ll lie down after my shower while my hair dries.

The puppy is lying perpendicular in the dog bed with her face dangling outside. Okay.

Found a mask.

Hmm. I need to shower, let my hair dry, use the snow blower, and brush off the cars before I can go to Costco. I might go tomorrow instead. Bella has food; it’s just not wet food. She is out of her “munchie bones,” so I’ll go to Walmart. Though if I get canned dog food there, I could put in a grocery list (done, so I don’t need to go anywhere).

Hmm, if I’m not going anywhere, I’ll just wear sweats after my shower.

Bella doesn’t like me petting the cats. I should pet her! Sigh. She’s gone from being timid to really pushy. Bella the DestructoDog is chewing up a box. This place looks like a nightmare.

Bella was playing kind of rough with Oliver—knocking him over—so I took her outside with her ball to work off some excess energy. The Walmart delivery showed up. The guy wanted extra money for delivering it, but I already paid a tip. Bella now has one of her beloved chew sticks. I do need to get dressed though to try to take Bella for a walk. It might not last long because she hates harnesses and leashes.

I have a headache, so I’m going to take acetaminophen and lie down for a while. Went to lie down and was going to close the door against Oliver when I saw him on the other side of the room. I swear that cat can teleport.

Overslept my nap. Gave Bella some wet food, and she loved it. Fed the cats. It’s going to be a little late to get the sidewalks cleared tonight, so I’ll wait until tomorrow. I’ll make some pizza. Had some quality time with a purring Lily.

I’m feeling better but still have a cough. I think that it’ll be an early night tonight.

The kitchen chairs have macrame covers with tassels. Both the cats and Bella have gone after the tassels, so I might have to take them off.

The pizza was good. Lily was stalking it but I kept it away from her.

Took Bella out for zoomies and to play with the ball. Oliver got out momentarily when we came in. I grabbed him.

I’m feeling like taking a nap, so I should just go to bed early. I need to scoop the litter boxes, feed Bella and the cats, and then go to bed.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Bella peed outside!!!! Apparently she didn’t like being on the leash when I took her outside previously. I was doing that because I didn’t know how else to get her off of the bed. I had to lift her this time.

This morning, she told me that she wanted to go out, and she pooped. Good girl! She’s getting settled. She knew that she was a good girl too. That was a little before 7 AM. Now she’s going back to sleep.

The snow has started but it’s only a light dusting so far.

Because I’m up, I’ll feed the cats and eat breakfast. Fed the cats. Zara was sleeping in but got up to eat. Ate breakfast. Now I’m going back to sleep with Bella.

Bella is the perfect dog for us. I can see why the shelter person said that my application was the best for her. She’s very laid-back. And she’s good with cats. She lay down in the dog bed! Then she jumped back on the people bed.

I’ve been petting Bella. She likes having her stomach scratched. I’m learning her language. I already spoke cat, but not dog.

Napped. Woke up a little after 11. Bella is eating breakfast.

Hmm, I need to get heartworm meds for her. I need to get her to the vet for her first checkup.

It’s snowing larger flakes now.

I moved my Italian lesson to next week because I have the vet appointment for Oliver and Lily at the same time. Oops.

I’m getting a headache, so I think that I need to eat lunch. Lily smelled the food and wanted it. I told her that I get to eat too. Bella wanted to go out. She did some sniffing and running around (she likes the snow) but needed to do her business again.

My car key is missing. Crap. I think that my spare is in my purse.

I heard a funny noise and went to investigate. Bella was in the cold bathroom. She was crawling along because she wasn’t sure if she was allowed to be there. I told her that it’s her house and she can go wherever she wants. Oliver went nose to nose with her! Now she’s with me in the kitchen.

I’m trying to get my energy up to shower. I’m tired. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been taking my vitamin D in the mornings. Which reminds me that I need to take my meds.

Bella is finding all the scattered cat food and eating it. The canine vacuum cleaner. I told her that she had food in the bedroom! And she had a pee accident in the kitchen. That’s okay. At least it was in the kitchen. I need to wash the floor anyway. I took her outside but she wasn’t interested. She went back up to the door, and I didn’t need to speak dog to interpret that! Bella likes her “bone” chews. I’ll have to get more. I’ll put in a grocery order next week and get some more. I also want to get her some rawhide bones because she’s a chewer.

Bella needed to go out again, and this time I got her cue. I missed it last time. She whined, but I thought that was because she was in the bathroom. She also likes bounding through the snow.

Had my singing lesson. Oliver had been walking on the digital piano keys, so I shut it off. He also lay on the laptop and minimized all the windows. I shut Bella in the bedroom because Zara knows how to deal with Oliver, but I don’t know how she’d feel about having Bella in her room. We practiced sight singing again. Then she asked me to pick a song to practice, so I chose “The Carol Of the Bells”. I told her about Dial-A-Carol.

Took Bella out, but she turned around and went back up the stairs. It’s getting kind of miserable out.

Oy. Fed the cats, but Lily is a slow eater. Oliver kept on coming after her food, and I kept pushing him away. Then Bella swooped in and ate it.

Tried to nap with Bella but I was cold. I thought about bringing out my electric blanket, but Bella likes to chew. I have a weighted blanket that I could try. I also haven’t put up the thermal curtains yet also. I put the weighted blanket and a velour blanket on the bed. I have them resting on my knee and it seems warmer.

I’m trying to convince myself to cook. Okay, I made Sage Brown Butter Chicken Piccata, after corralling Oliver in the bathroom. He doesn’t have the sense to stay off a hot stove. It was good. Lily and Bella were highly interested in the chicken, but Lily tried to get it only while I was eating it. (I thwarted her.)

Now I think that I’ll finish cleaning up, take Bella out, post, feed the cats and the dog, and go to bed. I’ll get up early to work on the kitchen. Oh no, I need to get up early to use the snow blower.

Bella was eating the dry cat food. I said, “No” and gave her her food. She didn’t want HER food. Then she wanted to go out. Now she’s eating her food. Oliver, on the other hand, wants to eat her food. It’s a zoo around here. Like herding cats and a dog.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Lily was rubbing against my hand. She’s starting to like me :)

Um, I want to go to sleep, but the Dynamic Duo is in here. I don’t mind Lily, but Oliver isn’t restful. Actually, he slept with me and didn’t bug me. Yay.

Oh man. I got Mimi set up upstairs, although I had to scoop Oliver out of there. The gate is up. Fed the cats. Now I have some time to kill. Maybe I’ll eat breakfast (done). There’s peace and quiet now that the cats are fed.

Hmm. I’ve got to remember to add Oliver (especially him, the Kamikaze Kitty!) and Lily to my pet insurance (done).

Oliver was in the bathroom when I showered, and he was very unhappy that I was doing something with which he wasn't involved. He walked into the shower as soon as I was done.

The gate upstairs is working well, and Mimi is happy that Oliver can't come up here. She's on my lap, purring. She was screaming at him before. I never heard a cat make such a noise, and I thought that I had hurt her.

Oh, I found the long extension cord that I bought for the Christmas lights that I never put up, so I'm going to use it for the aquarium.

I'm the only person at work. Everyone else took the week off. I need to save up on vacation time though. I'm assigning support tickets to different queues for different areas of the system. It's been fairly steady. I had to help someone whose account had expired.

There was an ad for a good French course on Facebook, which I saved, but I don't have time for it right now. Just studying Italian is enough for now.

Lily thinks that whenever I go in the kitchen, I'm going to feed her.

Submitted a grocery order, including extra cat food. We should be good for this weekend's snow (currently 8 -12 inches predicted). Though actually, I should add some frozen food (done).

Mimi is asleep somewhere, but I don't know where. Now she's on the chair. She seems to be realizing that Oliver can't come in here. And she's happy.

I’m lying down for my nap, with two inquisitive cats with me. I hope that they let me sleep. Oliver jumped on the bed but did let me sleep. Good kitty.

Ugh. My knee and elbow are hurting. I don't know why.

Went downstairs to soak the cat dishes. Oliver is playing with the box with the remaining balls in it. Whatever distracts him works for me. I received the TV for my bedroom, an aquarium thing, and The Dog Encyclopedia.

Fed the cats. Zara was hanging around waiting to be fed too. Got my food. Yay.

Lily, not Oliver, was waiting outside the gate upstairs when I got off of work.

Lay down after work. Lily climbed all over me and asked for pets. Then she lay down on top of me and slept. I think that I’ve been adopted :) Oliver is snoozing with me too.

Zara came in here with Lily and Oliver in here. She growled and Lily backed off, but she seems to be calming down. I’m kind of glad that she’s trying to come into the bedroom.

I’m thinking of going to bed and getting up early to get stuff ready for the dog, but I don’t want to leave with Zara in here. I did, and she came into the kitchen!

I’m microwaving a frozen salmon meal. Lily wants it. I told her, “No way. It’s mine.” I’ll feed them before I eat. Fed the cats. I have an assembly line going in which I soak their dishes, rinse and dry them, fill them with food, and dole them out.

Hum. I’m getting a headache, probably because I’m hungry.

The weather says that there is a snow shower, but the big weather news is the storm on Sunday. I hope that Bella will go out during it.

Did dishes and watered plants. Oliver tried to “help”. I need to empty the dryer and put more clothes in (done).

Now it’s bed time. Oops, Mimi just jumped on my lap.

days_unfolding: (Default)

I checked Costco and Vacations to Go on the price for the Cunard Panama Canal cruise. Vacations to Go has the better price, but it's awfully expensive. I should look at other cruise lines. Oceania is a little more expensive. Maybe I should put up with Celebrity for a Panama Canal cruise. Yeah, it's a lot cheaper. Actually, Azamara has a good price on Vacations to Go for a Panama Canal cruise. Its reviews are pretty good. And it's a small ship, which I'd like to try (500-600 guests).

I’m looking for some sort of stick vacuum for my floors. It needs to pick up cat litter. The Dyson is the best but is megabucks. I checked Mercari and eBay and can’t save much over Amazon’s current price. I need to think about it. (I'm going to wait until I have the house organized to get a robot vacuum. Maybe I'll wait until Black Friday next year to see if they'll have a sale.)

I overslept but made it to my Italian lesson. She thinks that I need to make up sentences to practice. She gave me a bunch of homework :)

I asked Mimi if she wanted some cheese with her whine. ("Mommy, I'm not on your lap! This is bad!") Finally, she went to take a nap on the guest futon.

I figured out how to have the alarm wake me up: put the mechanical alarm in bed with me. It shakes the bed when it goes off. I also ordered a "Sonic Boom" alarm with a bed shaker for times when I absolutely have to wake up.

Got the Christmas items for the children's home. I can't drop them off tomorrow because I have a ton of meetings, including before and after a short lunch. I'll drop them off at lunchtime on Friday.

I went to book a massage, but Massage Envy is booked up until January 24! I'll have to look elsewhere. Another place is booked too. Hmm. I'm taking NOT being booked up as an indication that I don't want to go there. Meanwhile, my neck, shoulders, and back hurt. Yoga should help when I start going again. Crud, yoga for January isn't listed yet. I hope that it isn't canceled. I found another possibility at a local yoga studio, but I really like the teacher for the Urbana Park District. Though hmm, if there is no yoga on Tuesdays, I could do Pilates.

Gathered up my remaining recycling. I’ll just pop it outside tonight or tomorrow morning. I have a crashing headache. I took some acetaminophen and hope that it will go away before I go to the concert tonight. Hmm, the headache is not going away. It feels like a sinus headache. Ugh. I’m wondering if I should skip the concert and lie down. Having music beating at my aching head does not sound pleasant. (This is an orchestral concert along with a choir.) Yeah, I’m lying down. Zara is warming my feet. Had a nice nap and my headache is gone.

I bought the Dyson stick vacuum cleaner. I found a "like new" one on eBay for a really good price.

I think that I’m going to go back to bed and get up early to get the recycling out and clean the kitchen.

The cats want fooood. NOW! Mimi is complaining.

My headache came back. Sigh.

I booked a massage for Saturday after singing at the memorial service. Now I need to post, do dishes, scoop litter boxes, and go back to sleep.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Woke up at 7 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at 9:30 AM. Dreamed that I moved to San Francisco.

Someone (Zara?) ate Mimi’s piece of turkey. Fed the cats and myself. Watered the spider plants because they were looking a little unhappy. Nap time. I woke up after only one hour. I guess that I’m caught up on my sleep.

Um. It’s snowing! It’s a good day to stay home. The snow didn’t stick.

I forgot to put clothes in the dryer. I need to dig out my cordless drill and charge it so that I can hang the pots for the spider plants. But first, I need to shower and try on some jeans that I bought in Michigan.

Um, I’m trying to decide whether to take one more nap. I’m a little sleepy after lunch. I did decide to lie down. Zara is snuggling. And I did put clothes in the dryer. Slept for another hour.

I’ve been scrolling through the Black Friday deals although I’m not buying anything. I like the flannel sheets from L.L. Bean. They also have a flannel comforter cover, but would it lock to the sheets? I might need to call them.

I need to go get coffee filters later today. I might go to Meijer late.

I read the weather report. It’s good that I’m not in Michigan this weekend because it’s slick up there.

Finally got my lazy butt into the shower. Afterwards, tried on my Ann Taylor LOFT jeans, and they were too big. I like the cut though, so I might look for some in my size. I think that I’ll sell the two pairs that I have on Mercari because they’re new with tags and nice jeans. I also tried on the corduroy blazer and don’t want it. Into the donation bag it goes.

Zara wants food. I think that my full-time job is being a chef and waitress to cats :) Fed myself and them.

Got my new stand mixer.

stand_mixer.jpg

I need to get the ingredients for Snickerdoodles when I have more money. Got my mom's coffee maker out (Ninja) and found the model number. I got a PDF of the instructions for it. I'm trying to print out the PDF, but for some reason, it's not printing. There we go. The printer wanted more paper but didn't tell me that.

Hmm. I'm trying to decide whether to go to Meijer now. I'd like a few donuts as well as the coffee filters, and I'm afraid that they'll sell out.

Mimi is being pushy about lap time though. I tipped her off when I was dealing with the printer, and she jumped back. Multiple times.

I have a headache, so I’m going to lie down for a little while with Zara. Rested for a half-hour. Mimi has taken to lying just inside the bedroom door when I’m in here. She ate Zara’s leftover food.

Went to Meijer and got the coffee filters, donuts, and a baguette. It was freaking cold out (currently 20F/-6C with a wind chill of 9F/-12C). Ack! It’s nice and toasty in the house though. I’m thinking of hibernating soon. Ran downstairs and turned off the outside water because it might freeze.

My mom’s Zig Zag plant is really happy and is putting out shoots like crazy.

zig_zag_plant.jpg

I'm now upstairs with a loudly meowing Mimi. It's surprisingly warm up here. Maybe I'll just get by with a small space heater.
